Arts & Craft

Redrow continues to encourage the artistic and creative flair of budding and established artists in the communities in which we build. Many of our beautifully designed show homes feature inspiration from local talent, including young amateurs as well as professional artists and photographers.

At Mill Hill, in Bingham, Redrow has worked with 32 local artists and Nottingham-based interior design firm Bo & Jangles to create a unique ‘gallery show home’. The property includes original paintings, sculptures, ceramics, glassware and bespoke furniture, allowing the artists to benefit from showing their work in a new environment and to reach people who might not normally visit a gallery or studio.

And in South Wales at Pontardulais, near Swansea, Redrow has hosted an exhibition of charcoal drawings by local school children, which depict the area’s history, most notably the ‘Rebeca Riots’, which helped bring an end to political, social and economic injustice in the 19th century.

Pupils from three primary schools in the Devonport area of Plymouth discovered the joys of kite-making and flying thanks to a joint initiative by Redrow and local outdoor activities shop, Liquid Boards.

Redrow has also continued to support a number of important sporting events, including sponsorship in 2008 of the Suffolk Youth Games for the fifth consecutive year. The event is the largest community multi-sport festival in the county, including 10 competitive sports for both able bodied and disabled competitors. Over 1,000 children from the seven local authority districts of Suffolk competed for victory.

Penallta Rugby Club and the Celtic Crusaders national rugby league squad, in Wales, continue to be supported by Redrow. And at the 2008 Horwich Carnival, near Bolton, we sponsored the senior men’s cycle race that formed part of the popular Carnival Games; while in Scotland, Redrow made a welcome donation towards running costs of the first Glasgow Academy Highland Games.

January 2009 will see the latest running of the annual ‘Mad’ Maldon Mud Race, in Essex, with a major financial contribution from Redrow as well as teams of our employees taking part. Also in Maldon, Redrow supported the annual East London Cabbies Outing for the second consecutive year, helping to pay for 170 children with special needs to enjoy a fun-filled and action-packed day of activities.
