The Challenge of Climate Change

Activity within the house-building industry has wide-ranging influence on the environment, the economy and society in general. Whilst much of this influence is beneficial, we are mindful that any harmful effects must be minimised or eliminated. We acknowledge our responsibilities to the communities in which we operate by seeking opportunities to engage with them through consultation and involvement. We recognise our obligations to the health and safety of our employees and the public, to the environment and to sustainable living.

We understand that we must work towards reducing reliance on fossil fuels, cutting down energy demands and reducing carbon emissions and we act accordingly to continually improve our product and working practices, not only to meet these challenges, but also to reap the benefits which result from improved efficiencies and in so doing deliver increased value to all our stakeholders.

This year has seen Redrow continue to make good progress in delivering against our objectives. In September 2007 we published our Environmental Policy and our intent was reinforced by our Climate Change Statement issued in March 2008. Both documents can be found on our website. We are ensuring that these values are becoming embedded within our culture through training and communication with our staff, setting targets to reduce waste and carbon dioxide emissions, improving re-cycling rates and employing measures to reduce water consumption.

Redrow is fully committed to responsible development and recognises that successful engagement with these issues is integral to being a high quality developer.
