At Stamford Brook, Redrow is constructing 400 homes in partnership with the National Trust to enhanced environmental performance.
With the assistance of Leeds University, standards in excess of the projected 2008 Building Regulations are being achieved.
Air tightness values in the range of 1.2 – 6 m3/hr/m2 are being attained against an industry target of 10 m3/hr/m2. In conjunction with well designed insulation details, this means that the homes offer excellent thermal efficiency and low running costs for our customers and reduced impact on our environment from CO2 emissions arising from energy generation.
Materials and components have been carefully chosen for their sustainability credentials and have been sourced locally wherever possible. No uPVC products have been used other than rainwater goods and water based paints have been specified. All timber is accredited by the Forestry Stewardship Council Certification Scheme (FSC) and is without chemical impregnation, including the double glazed, argon-filled windows.
Water usage is reduced through the use of flow restrictors, dual flush toilets and the provision of water butts where this is possible in garden areas.
Assisting in the drive to reduce energy costs, low energy lighting is incorporated externally and guidance is given to customers on the purchase of environmentally friendly white goods. Maximum use is made of solar gain by the considered orientation of homes which ensures minimum overshadowing of homes.
Special efforts have also been made to include the site workforce in the objectives of the site and the standards of workmanship required and to ensure understanding of the Redrow Waste Management Policy which is in operation on the site.
Even the soft landscaping is designed to make use of native species only.
