Promoting the Lessons of Sustainability

Redrow is committed to continuous improvement of the sustainability of its developments and is actively involved in incorporating the lessons learned from Debut into our Signature range. In addition it is further developing and improving Debut itself together with increasing its involvement in inner city regeneration.

Around 6% of 2006/07 total build were eco homes rated and schemes currently in hand will deliver in excess of 5,000 homes constructed to achieve code for sustainable homes level 3 and 360 eco homes going forward.

Our internal Product Development Team are responsible for driving forward a progressive agenda of innovation, both in terms of design and construction techniques.

This focus encompasses: -

Energy efficiency measures: improving thermal efficiency, specifying low energy lighting, specifying electrical appliances rated either AA or AB for energy usage, improving air tightness performance).

The Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) energy rating for all homes are available for customers and are displayed in all completed properties, providing information on the running costs of a house. SAP performance data is collated for all homes constructed by Redrow.

SAP ratings for the Signature range constructed over the past 12 months average at a value of 93. Debut homes rate between 101 and 110.

On and off-site energy generation and carbon balancing: Various technologies are under consideration for integration into our developments as part of an overall strategy involving best practice design and considered specification of materials.

Guidance is given to our companies on these aspects through the Redrow Renewable Energy Policy.

Technologies covered include: -

Water management: incorporation of flow restrictors, specification of dual flush toilets in all new homes, incorporation of sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS) where practicable as part of the development process, creating wildlife habitats and lessening the impact of our developments on the environment, incorporating water butts where practicable. Refer to Redrow in Action 13 (Water Management).

Consideration and trialling of new construction methods: Seeking and trialling new materials and processes which are more efficient in performance, build and sustainability.

Materials sourcing ensuring that wherever possible, materials used in construction are locally sourced and have been produced from sustainable or renewable resources.

Redrow’s recently introduced Signature range has been designed to permit more efficient land usage by employing higher density development whilst still providing quality living environments.
