Redrow in action - Partnered innovation
Project Management in action at Stamford Brook
Stamford Brook is a unique development that involves complex project management in conjunction with the National Trust and the developments consortium partner Taylor Woodrow's project teams. The role of the project manager is varied and wide ranging and, in particular;
- ensures appropriate departments and individuals within Redrow Homes, as well as external consultants, are working proactively and understand the background of and vision for the development
- works with the other partners to ensure sign off and joint decisions are made in a timely fashion
- appropriately briefs the directors of key issues that require further negotiation
- chairs and action plans the monthly project meetings
- acts as one of the contacts between the project team and Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council, including Planning, Highways, Area Services and Parks & Countryside departments
Ensuring compliance with Environmental Performance Specification
The houses at Stamford Brook are built to enhanced energy efficiency standards as part of a "Partners in Innovation" project funded by Dept for Trade & Industry and Office for Deputy Prime Minister. The findings from the project are being used in the current revision of Part L. I work closely with Leeds Metropolitan University who are leading the project, and other project partners in:
- the ongoing revision and development of robust details
- researching alternative products, suppliers and subcontractors to ensure compliance with the specification
- developing appropriate training for sales staff, sub contractors and site managers
- carrying out air pressurisation testing of completed dwellings to check compliance with agreed contractual standards
Community Consultation
Since the early concept of Stamford Brook, the project team has carried out extensive community consultation to keep local residents informed of current developments. Together with the project co-ordinator of the National Trust, I am involved with:
- acting as a key contact for members of the public and responding to enquiries
- the Broadheath Community Association and other community groups
- working with Broadheath Primary School
- assisting in the production of the Stamford Brook newsletter
- organising open meetings and other consultation events
Public Relations
There has been considerable interest in the project:-
- Attendance at conferences and exhibitions to highlight the work on site including delivering a presentation on Stamford Brook at the Constructing Excellence Group Modern Methods of Construction
- working with journalists from trade and mainstream publications
- organising and leading tours of the site to groups including delegates from the Sustainable Communities Summit held at GMEX in January 2005 and other volume housebuilders
- working with the Sales Department at Redrow Homes and Taylor Woodrow in conjunction with The National Trust to ensure the entrance to site, marketing suites and landscaping meets the vision for the development
