Redrow works with schools to explain the housebuilding industry, inviting schoolchildren to spend a day on site learning about the industry, the materials used and environmental, health and safety issues.
Designed to support teachers and pupils, the Redrow Learning Web is an on-line resource which consists of two modules supporting the National Curriculum. The first module is aimed at nine to eleven year olds, focusing on how we live together in communities and care for the environment. The second module is aimed at older school children, aged twelve to sixteen, and is based on the new curriculum subject of citizenship. Working in teams, pupils are asked to create a new homes development – considering how to enhance their local environment and community, what type of homes are required and who will live there. The Redrow Learning Web can be found at www.education.redrow.co.uk, and provides study aids for the single lessons or complete projects lasting an entire school term.
Members of our construction and health and safety teams regularly visit schools local to developments to educate children on the dangers associated with construction sties. To support these presentations, the “Buster Rules OK” health and safety activity pack has been developed to help children learn about the potential dangers of construction sites. Dressed in all the correct safety clothing and headgear, Buster the bear is the children’s “building buddy” who delivers important messages in a fun and friendly way. Buster Rules OK packs have been delivered to each regional company to forge strong links with primary schools and the communities in and around our developments.
As Redrow upgrades its IT hardware, suitable surplus hardware is often donated to local schools to enhance their IT facilities.
